Pressing her appearance.

Beauty was established in school.

It was personal.

Straightening was self-image.

“Nappy,” “kinky,”, “coily”, “spiraled.”

The terms of slaves were used 

to degrade her texture.

Natural was wool.

This still holds her.

The anxieties of the average Negro.

Difficulties and embarrassments.

They took those features

and found a problem with

Black natural hair.
